Who is Tim Yuen
I’ve always had an interest in martial arts since I was a young boy but didn’t have many opportunities to go on with it. I started out learning Yang style Taichi from a couple of teachers but again wasn’t too keen in it until I met Mr Hwuang Zhi Ming, a very proficient Baji (Eight Extreme boxing) master who took me under his wing and taught me Chen style taijichuan. I learnt the Chen style from him for about three years and developed the interest and totally in awe of the Chen style Taijichuan system.
I can recall many times when my father asked me to continue with the Yang style due to the unpopularity of the Chen Style. Obviously both my father and I didn’t have much knowledge about the Chen style back then and Dad’s being a veteran of Yang style Taichi having practiced the Yang style for over twenty five years will naturally want to see his son learn the similar style to his so he can instruct me further and help me along the way. However my interest in Yang style was no longer a passion and of course out of self-righteous attitude, I wanted to rescue and to help maintain the rarity of Chen style. When I think back I was very naive to think like that, having now discovered how popular Chen style has became.

On one side I heard my father told me how quickly the Chen style is becoming extinct, on the other hand Mr Hwuang kept on encouraging me to continue with the Chen Style and later informed me that the current standard bearer of Chen style is already out of China and has migrated to Australia but with one condition that I need to learn about computers and the internet to get in contact with the Chen family.

Due to my stubbornness in refusing to learn about computers, which it has delayed my learning of Chen style for several years until my training came to a standstill. By this time Mr Hwuang had already returned to Taiwan to live and I didn’t have a teacher to learn from.

I always remembered when Mr Hwuang offering to teach me the Chen style Taijichuan and said that his specialty lies with Bajichuan and if I am to learn Baijichuan from him he can teach me the real essence of Baji, however because I was studying Chen style from him, he said it’s best to go to the source, the current standard bearer of Chen style or his immediate members of the family for proper instruction into the style as they have the secrets of the art. He also went on to say that if I don’t break out of my stubbornness then I’ll never learn anymore and again he was referring to my stubbornness in refusing to learn about computers, so I guess it was him he helped me break out of my comfort zone and expand my knowledge about computers, I learnt much more about the development of Chen style, the most important thing of all is the overwheming feeling of joy I had discovering that Chen style is now as popular as ever. I am grateful to have someone constantly push me and urge me to seek further guidance from the Chen family.

Finally, I could get a chance to contact Master Chen Xiao Wang’s family, I embraced the opportunity as Godsend when I found out that Master’s wife (Madam Wu XiuQing) could also teach just as well as the Master himself.

This is because Master Chen is constantly out of Australia to teach elsewhere and if he is to come home, it’s only going be a few weeks before he sets off again. This meant that I could'nt get a chance to train with him however we were fortunate to have Master Chen Xiao Wang’s wife and his youngest son Chen Peng Fei come to Brisbane to conduct a couple of seminars so all the Chen style enthusiasts can extract the best from the Chen family.

Hopefully in the near future master Chen XiaoWang can spare a bit of time for all of us to come to Brisbane.

World Chen Style Taijichuan Academy Australia

After a long period of not wanting to expose myself in the martial art circle due to all the politics involved and under the constant guidance and encouragement of Madam Wu, I finally decided to take on the challenge by teaching Chen style Taijichuan as a National accredited coach of the AKWF (Australian Kung Fu Wushu Federation) and become a member of the AKWF.

I established the ‘World Chen Style Taijichuan Academy Australia' late 2005 for the purpose of attracting more people to Chen style which I think has all the elements a martial art lover needs. Please read ‘Characteristics of Chen style’ for more on Chen style.

At World Chen Style Taijichuan Academy Australia, we offer to teach all aspects of Chen Style taijichuan from 19 forms and 38 forms created by Master Chen Xiao Wang, Laojia Yilu and Paochui and XinJia Yilu and Paochui, Swords and Broadswords and Pear-flower and White-ape spear, silk-reeling exercises and push hands.

Those who are interested in learning the Chen style are welcome to contact Tim on 0402 475 165. Private lessons can be pre-arranged.

I must thank all the people involved for making this site possible. Firstly Mrs.Chen (Madam Wu) for all her guidance, teaching and providing us the photos of Pengfei’s and Master Chen’s, Nathan Coxsen for the work on the website, Ramesh Patel for encouraging me to be a national coach (I am already reaping the benefits mate), Esther Shohet for years of support and all the students old and new who supported me for so many years.

The Chinese have a saying:
‘Teacher can guide us to the door, it’s up to the individual to cultivate it ‘

In Martial arts, the teacher can teach us the method, we need to put time and effort into training to ensure their teaching is not wasted. Time and effort therefore equals to GONG FU……….. Happy Training folks.
